I-35 in Austin has been recognized by the Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU) as one of 10 Freeways Without Futures for 2019. CNU’s national list highlights campaigns to remove freeways that blight the urban fabrics they run through. Black + Vernooy is part of the local Reconnect Austin campaign to remove I-35 through downtown Austin and reclaim the corridor as new public space and developable land, stitching back together East and West Austin.
